The basics of playing poker

A new player to the game called poker is bound to find out that among other things, the game is fun as others and easy too especially when the basics are carefully and properly explained. So for some of the most basic information about poker gaming here is a brief introduction. Although no international rules are binding on the game, online poker is all the same banned in some states of the U.S. and elsewhere around the world; while Duplicate Poker was recently allowed for citizens of the United States. There are different types of poker games that are currently being played all over the world. Poker is known as a standard game that is played with a deck of 52 cards ranked from the lowest to the highest. Wild cards and Jokers are often used in certain games but depending on the type being played.

The cards ranking contain four suits namely: Diamond, Heart, Spade and Club. Card numbers are Ace, King, Queen, Jack, then others from 10 to 2. Knowing the rules of the game in addition to experience are the keys to winning poker competitions. Therefore, it is very important to read, know and understand all the basic rules that apply to playing poker. Betting on real money and playing poker cards to determine the winner is the primary aim of the game. A typical game has players being dealt with cards by a dealer while they collectively place bets in the pot. At the end of the game, the highest hand which doesn’t fold becomes the winner. While some think poker is a game of chance, others think it has more to do with a player's skills than luck, especially when one knows a lot about the game.

The betting structures are of 3 types: No Limit, Pot Limit and Limit. No Limit poker games are assigned a fixed amount as blind structure. Limit games are those with a fixed amount of allowed bets in every round while Pot Limit is like No Limit. Bets for this may range from the size of the pot down to the minimum bet allowed. A poker has a 'hand' of 5 cards while the rest are irrelevant. These hands are also ranked in poker games and there are 10 of such hands that matter. They are: Straight Flush, Royal Flush, Four of a kind, Flush, Straight, Full House, Three of a Kind, Pair, Two Pairs and High Card. A call in poker is a bet made high enough to match the last bet while a raise is an additional bet done to match the previous bet. A fold is losing hand that has no chance of winning the pot.

Tip of the day!
Ignoring the odds can be a costly learning process for any player. Rather than realizing odds are important after multiple losses, it is better to realize how important odds are from repeatedly proven results. Start learning odds if you have not done it yet. It is never late or too early.
