Introduction to Seven card stud poker
In seven card stud poker the dealing of the cards is not all face up or face down it is a mix of face up and face down cards. Different set of rules apply relating to dealing and betting in each of the street cards. The seven card stud poker is a challenging game that can turn you from your joyful mood to a scary one with every street card. The game is quite thrilling and challenging; and until before Texas was introduced, this was the popular form of poker.
- There is limited betting in seven card stud poker games and there is no limit or pot limit variations in this game.
- Of the seven cards that are dealt to each player only the ranking of best high 5 cards is considered.
Some of the winning hands in seven card stud poker are:-
- Royal flush – A-K-Q-J-T
- Straight flush - A sequence of cards with same suit applies (quiet rare)
- Four-of-a kind – Four cards of the same rank like 4A > 4K > 4Q > 4J > 4T…
- Full house – Three of a kind plus a pair.
- Flush – 5 cards of same suit, but the high rank counts amount all players
- Straight – A sequence of cards with same different applies.
- Three-of-a-kind – Three cards of the same rank like 3A > 3K > 3Q > 3J > 3T…
- Two pair, one pair, no pair etcetera
The sequence of flow of the seven card stud poker game can be outlined as follows:-
- Ante – All the players who are willing to play the seven card are supposed to place a small joining fee in the pot. There is also a limitation in the amount of bet that can be placed in a particular round with a set lower and upper limit.
- Dealing – Two cards face down and one card face up is dealt (totally 3 cards are dealt in this round), high rank face up initiates bring-in and betting rotates. During ties the one close to dealer starts.
- A burn card is kept aside face down and is not used.
- Fourth street card is dealt face up followed by the betting by the high rank and bet rotates. (turn)
- Fifth street card is dealt face up followed by the betting by the high rank and bet rotates.
- Sixth street card is dealt face up followed by the betting by the high rank and bet rotates.
- Seventh street card is dealt face down followed by the betting by high rank and bet rotates.
- Showdown follows where high 5 rank cards wins
