An advert in poker is meant to be a situation where a player reveals a hand with mediocre cards which is a vague impression given to other players that your game is a little loose. Advertising goes to show the rest of the players that one is playing a weak game of cards suggesting that the player doing that is disadvantaged. However, it is just an idea that makes other players give the player extra action if s/he makes a legit hand.
Since reviewing an initial impression is bad for some people, the downside of this move is that a potential benefit will create a lasting negative point for the advertising player. This behavior in poker may eventually go against the player because it is read as a move that intends to maneuver that the other players evaluate you or your style of play. A poker table that is filled with calling stations may turn out to be harmful and unnecessary.
