An ante is a forced but small bet which is required of every poker player that is present around the table. This bet has to be paid before a hand is dealt. Poker games that have an ante, the bets mentioned above are those that are made up of the first pot. Literally used as a verb word, an ante is interpreted to mean post this bet. Examples of how this is used are some statements here: "Sir, you have forgotten to ante" and another one like "Yes, it's my ante over there."
An ante is an agreed but nominal bet that each player needs to make before the beginning of a hand. It is the money that is usually placed inside the pot before the start of the hand. How it works is that a small part of a bet each player contributes to the pot as a seed and is always done before the poker hand begins. Many hold 'em games don't deal with an ante. Rather, blinds are used to gather up the money in the pot.
